Stephen N. Adubato, the founder of The North Ward Center in Newark, was honored by Newark Archbishop John J. Myers as the Catholic Charities’ “Humanitarian of the Year” at its annual gala.

Adubato, who serves on the board of Catholic Charities of the Newark Archdiocese, was recognized for his years of dedicated service to the residents of Newark.

Stephen N. Adubato Sr., the founder of The North Ward Center in Newark, was honored by the New Jersey Ballet for his contributions toward improving the quality of life for residents in the city.

 

Adubato was one of three honorees who were recognized at the New Jersey Ballet’s 52 Annual Gala held Saturday, March 12 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. Also recognized were Assemblywoman Nancy F. Munoz and James R. Gillen, the former general counsel of Prudential and chairman of the Prudential Foundation.

Newark educator Stephen N. Adubato, Sr., received an honorary degree from Kean University Tuesday at the Nathan Weiss Graduate College commencement ceremony at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

 

Adubato, who received a Doctor of Human Letters degree, was honored for his contributions to Newark, which include the founding of The North Ward Center and the Robert Treat Academy Charter School.

North Ward Center founder honored for contributions to social justice and education

Stephen N. Adubato, the founder of The North Ward Center and the Robert Treat Academy charter school, was honored by two organizations in April for his ongoing contributions to education and social justice.

Adubato was among five leaders honored by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund at its Awards of Excellence dinner March 18. Two days later, he was given the President's Award by the National Association of African-American Administrators at their 18th annual Gladys Hillman-Jones Scholarship and Leadership Awards Breakfast.

Preschoolers Graduate from The North Ward Center

Read this article as it originally appeared on nj.com | localtalknews.com More than 315 preschoolers from the North Ward Child Development Center in Newark graduated before proud parents, grandparents, siblings and friends this week as part of an annual rite of spring at The North Ward Center. “All of our 4 year-olds are either reading or ready to read,” said Child Development Center Project Director Michele Sceppaguercio. “We’re sending them in ready to go on a path of success.”

Read this article as it originally appeared on nj.com | localtalknews.com The North Ward Center’s Family Success Center invited the community to take steps toward preventative health care and learn about services available to them at a health fair on Saturday, June 11 at Casa Israel Adult Medical Day Care Center. “These events are vital because for people who don’t have insurance, this is where they find out what’s wrong and where prevention can take place,” said Newark Community Health Centers (NCHC) Marketing and Outreach Representative Nilsa Santiago, who coordinated the fair in collaboration with the North Ward Center.

This story originally ran in The Asbury Park Press on Aug. 19, 2009 He spent Tuesday at the Shark River, miles away from his classroom, but Ryan Hernandez learned several important lessons anyway. He learned kayaking is exhilarating but exhausting. He learned that without knowledge of math and science, "you're not really going to do so good" in a boat. He learned how to tie a knot that could help keep a sailboat firmly in place in middle of a river.
