State Education Commissioner Bret Schundler gave the keynote address today as 49 eighth-graders graduated from Newark's Robert Treat Academy.
"When I was mayor of Jersey City, I worked with others around the state to pass charter school legislation," Schundler told a packed auditorium at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. When he saw his first class graduate in Jersey City he said, "That was one of the happiest days of my life."

During the ceremony, Adubato received an honorary doctorate from Kean University for his work in education.
"It's about you," he said to the graduating class. "You are the promise we believe in. God bless you."
